Themes, Topics, & Meandering Subjects As We Experience The Difficult Times Ahead
Commentary and opinion on Human Behavior, Society, Current Events, History, Science, Politics, Pandemics, growing older, wishing I were younger, defying the odds, defying authority, the strange mating practices of Liberals, mysterious medical maladies of Conservatives, and anything else that deserves my commentary and opinion… whether you have any interest in my random palaver or not.
I do NOT know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried so don’t even ask.
(Huh? Did I just hear someone out there ask, “Who the hell is Jimmy Hoffa?”)
My opinions are free and are worth every penny you are paying to be here. No refunds. Mask wearing is optional here, but please keep to social distancing (If you wear a mask it means you are one of “them”, if not wearing a mask then you are one of “those”). Oh, by the way, the usual random drug testing has been waived this month because the cup holder person we hired is under quarantine.
The significance of the rock face graphic in this header? A reminder in my own mind that my opinions should be carved in stone for the ages. (Just don’t take everything I say for granite.)
Today’s Pontificate – Just experiencing during the last four years the national political mood impacting cultural norms, the effects of the pandemic, the seeming disarray of once trusted government institutions, the continued fighting for individual equality in government and society, a tumultuous election that strikes at the core of our prime democratic liberty… one could very easily interpret a whole lot of this as some failing of American democracy. To answer the question that is the title of this post… no, American democracy is not failing.
Today’s Pontificate – The title above is actually a place on this planet. Just when you thought you knew all there is to know in life, something like this pops up to humble one’s self.
Today’s Pontificate – No.. this isn’t a post about the guy pictured above. Well, it is a bit of an “in memorium”, but his character persona was his charisma. Yet it does illustrate to some degree how some people can manage to find loyal followers based on a personal “charisma” in delivering particular message… at the right time.
Today’s Pontificate – This last week we learned of yet another celeb-of-sorts dangling a bit too many participles on a vidcam to the world. What usually follows is the almost predictable late night jokes and public judgement that can change careers. Sometimes justifiable… sometimes, uh… questionable.
Today’s Pontificate – Like Joni Mitchell sang, “you don’t know what you got till it’s gone”. My parents’ generation carried with it a culture of family inclusion and friendships and simply getting together on a regular basis to give their own lives an incentive for what was important to them. I witnessed and experienced a piece of that.
Today’s Pontificate – It’s one thing for the nation to be pretty much divided 50/50, but when that divide becomes a household matter… a conflict inside the family and with friendships… it surely does not bring out the best of anyone.
Today’s Pontificate – It suddenly dawned on me the other day as I caught myself passing some thoughts through my mind that are generally reserved for those older than me (or so I thought).
Today’s Pontificate – Hmm… let’s see.. professional demonstrator, huh. (Just how the hell are they recruiting people to do that?) Yeah, I know.. it’s a bit old school newspaper job searching.
Today’s Pontificate – I served, and I survived unscathed. I guarded nuclear weapons in storage, and I guarded nuke-laden bombers on alert, ready to launch on a Presidential go-ahead. I supervised others on that same mission assignment…. knowing my responsibility was to assure our nation’s ability to strike at an enemy. I simply served and did my duty. No heroics found here.
